For centuries,people have been fascinated by the legend of Atlantis,the advanced civilization that mysteriously disapperared into the sea. According to the Greek philosopher Plato, Atlantis was an island located in the Atlantic Ocean. Plato's account was that the island sank in a single day, right after an earthquake struck. In the eighteenth century, Atlantis was once again a popular subject and serious attempts were made to prove its existence. Even tody, some claim that Atlantis still lies floating on the bottom of the ocean.
