먼저 학생의 이해를 돕기 위해 위의 문장을 3개로 분리시켜 보겠습니다.

 

1. One company developed what it called a ‘technology shelf:(한 회사가 "기술선반"이라 불리는 것을 개발했다.

2. It was created by a small group of engineers.(그것(기술선반)은 소집단의 기술자들에 의해 만들어 졌다.

3. They(= a small group of engineers) placed possible technical solutions(that other teams might use in the future) on the technology shelf. : 그 소집단의 기술자들은 "기술선반"위에 장차 다른 팀이 사용할수도 있는 가능한 기술적 해결책들을 올려 놓았다.(they:주어, placed: 동사, possible~목적어)

 

위 3가지에서 1번과 2번을 관계대명사로 연결하면...

4. One company developed what it called a ‘technology shelf", (which was) created by a small group of engineers. 

 

그리고 3번을 수동태로 바꾸어 보면 아래처럼 되겠지요..?

5. [possible technical solutions(that other teams might use in the future) were placed on the techology shelf.]... 여기까지 이해가 가시나요..?

 

그러면 4번과 5번을 또 관계대명사로 연결시키면...아래처럼 되겠지요(이 연결 방법은 알터이고..? 모르면 메일 주시고)

6. One company developed what it called a ‘technology shelf", (which was) created by a small group of engineers, on which possible technical solutions(that other teams might use in the future) were placed ]  ....자!!! 여기에서 학생은 중학교때 도치에 대해 배웠을 겁니다.

 

ex) 주어 + 동사 + 부사구  → 부사구 + 동사 + 주어

ex) A shower came down. → Down came a shower.  The light went out.  → Out went the light.

 

그러면 위 6번 문장에서 주어(possible technical solutions(that other teams might use in the future)를  뒤로 도치시키면 문장이 어떻게 되나요...아래처럼 되지요..?

<결론>

여기서 which은 언뜻 보면 주격 같지만 전치사 on의 목적격이며, 따라서 선행사는 technology shelf,  주어는  possible technical solutions 입니다. 따라서 주어가 복수임으로 was가 아니라 were가 맞습니다.

 

저는 학생의 이해를 돕기 위해 이렇게 세분화 시켜 설명을 한 관계로 문장이 복잡해 보이지만,

학생이 문제를 풀어 나갈땐 주어만 파악했다면 굉장히 쉽게 답을 찾을 수 있고 읽어 나갈수 있는 구문입니다.

그렇죠,,? [가능한 기술적 해결책들이(possible technical solutions ) 올려져 있는(were placed ) 기술선반....].....!!!
