Atolls can be as small as one mile around or
as big as a hundred miles around,
and they always have a clam pond, or lagoon, in their center.
Fish like the shallow lagoons because they are protected from storm.
The____there may be about 100 feet deep.
The islands themselves never rise more than thirty feet above the water.
They are covered with a thin layer of salty soil.
On some atolls only coconut palms, breadfruit,
and pandanus trees can grow in this salty soil.
There also aren't many ____ to be seen.
The only living ones are rats and land crabs.
산호도(섬)은 작게는 1마을.....크게는 수백마일에 이른다.
그 산호도에는 중앙에 조개섬 또는
lagoon(작은 늪 또는 환초로 둘러쌓인 작은 바다)가 있다.
물고기들은 얕은 lagoon를 좋아하는데
그것은 폭풍으로부터 자기를 보호해 주기 때문이다.
대략 100feet 정도이고
그섬은 수면위로 30feet 이상은 솟아나와 있지 않다.
그 섬들은 염분이 담겨있는(염기성)흙의
가느다른 층으로 덮여있다.
어떤 산호도에서는 단지 코코넛 야자류...빵나무
그리고 pandanus나무 등만이 염기성 흙속에서
자라날수 있다..또한 많은 (생물)도 볼수없다...
유일하게 살아있는 것이라고는 쥐들과 게들뿐....
